, featuring vice president bite bite. thepresident -- vice president biden. the american coalition for clean coal electricity says this has been happening for months. rereached out to the obama campaign and have yet to hear back. >>> finally, politico roger simon wrote a satire of vice presidential nominee paul ryan this week using this quote. "he has been marching around his campaign bus saying things like , 'if stench calls, take a message .'" he was referencing this quote in the "new york times" -- "if ryan wants to run for national office again, he will probably have to wash the stench of romney off of him." simon's fake quote, attempt at satire was not fully appreciated. in other words, everybody didn't get it. "new york times" columnist paul krugman wrote, "can i say that even though i'm not exactly a fan of mitt romney's, this is just bad behavior?" from liberal commentator taylor marsh, "simon's piece spread like wildfire and calling a gigantic ripple." they weren't alone. simon clarified in editor's note he believes paul ryan calls mitt romney something more dignified than "stench."

biden spoke to voters in charlotte, north carolina a short time ago about the concerns he has over his opponent's plan for medicare, while at wong man's paul ryan's event in iowa today things took an emotional term when a veteran asked him about his social security benefits and why the government taxes the only source of income for a man who dedicated his life to defending his country. >> i served in the air force in 65 straight out of high school, and i learned in the military -- [applause] >> -- the skills that i had to take me through life. i served in grenada, and i served in iran, and i live off of social security. i live off a thousand dollars a month, and i cannot understand why this country that i gave my life for feels that they should tax me twice for social security. they already taxed me for that and they take a third of it back when they give me that check. >> you know i'm glad you brought that up, sir. [applause] >> now, there is a tax on social security benefits he's talking about. i voted consistently to repeal that tax because you know what you already paid for this. i

to say, kind of the joe biden way, one for you, one for me? everyone was locked in their dogma? >> in the beginning, not in the beginning of the book but in the beginning of obama coming into office, he really -- there was a sense boehner and obama could work together. >> yes. >> that ended relatively quickly. what happened? >> it did. it ended -- boehner reached out to the president. they had lots of meetings. i described their private meetings in detail. as boehner said, at one of the first meetings, the president was cidrinking iced tea and chewing on an nicorette because of his smoking habit and there's boehner over there having a cigarette and red wine, merlot. in a since, they made some progress, but they did not get there. i chart in thousand of words the exact negotiations, the phone calls. you see something that didn't get fixed. i is an i term shame it didn't get fixed. >> why after this research it is harder today to make deals. you see the history of this, people are able to make deals when there are real people sitting across from each other. what is it about this

to boast -- to vice- president alkyl and joe -- al gore and joe biden. let me read some of his points. -- can you elaborate? >> sure. he is not really specifically using this advice for romney or obama, although i have no doubt many of these tips are being passed on to president obama. it is interesting. that was my first short summary of what he has to say. he went into more debt -- depth about each one of those things. impressions of the debate are formed very early. in the first half hour. a lot of the reporters will be writing their stories in the first half hour. you need to come out strong. if there is something you want to say, you have to say it right away. you suggest candidates, when they come out to the sage, right down three points they want to make. when you are watching the debates, you see that. talking points in response to any sort of question. the idea of do not debated gotrator is do not say, he more time, i need more time. those things may be true but it doesn't look good. >> are those moments magnified in a nationally televised presidential debate? i think everyth
